
Michael DeLaney is a Certified Elder Law Attorney and a senior partner with the law firm of DeLaney Law Offices, Ltd. Mr. DeLaney limits his practice to Elder Law, focusing specifically on Guardianship and Probate litigation.
Mr. DeLaney is an experienced GAL or Guardian ad litem, frequently appointed by Courts to represent the best interests of an elder during a Guardianship Proceeding. Additionally, Mike represents families seeking to help a disabled loved one obtain the protection of a Guardian, but he has also worked on many cases helping victims of financial exploitation and undue influence recover funds from unscrupulous individuals.
Mr. DeLaney is an author for Illinois Jurisprudence published by Lexis-Nexis, and a contributing author of the legal treatise entitled, Ethics in Elder Law. He has also served as the Chicago Bar Association Chairperson of the Elder Law Section. Currently, Mike serves as a committee member of the Illinois Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys in Illinois.
Mr. DeLaney is board certified as a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) by the National Elder Law Foundation. Although board certification is not required by the Illinois Supreme Court in order to practice elder law, it evidences strong commitment to and expansive knowledge of elder law. Mr. DeLaney has extensive training and experience counseling older clients and their families, which permits him to expertly meet each client's unique needs and concerns. He also serves as a frequent lecturer to other attorneys as a faculty member of the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education. Mr. DeLaney earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his Juris Doctorate from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.
